  WHAT IS IT? This is a very simple, 2-way, plug-in type Solenoid Valve. It was designed for economy but retains its aircraft quality. The Coil is a low voltage D.C. winding. The Armature contains an elastomeric "button" that engages a conical seat in the anodized aluminum Body. All ferro-magnetic materials are plated for corrosion protection. The design is very compact and weighs but 2¼ ounces. The Coil is sealed and the Body staked into the Solenoid Assembly. It is not economical to overhaul this unit. It's less expensive to replace it with a new one. Handling and shipping costs surpass its price. Yet it has the quality and reliability of Valves costing three and four times as much in like quantities.

HOW DOES IT WORK? The Valve is the Normally Closed type meaning when de-energized, a Return Spring along with the Inlet Pressure keep the Valve closed. Upon application of 18-32 VDC to the Coil, the Armature, with its elastomeric "button" (poppet), is withdrawn from the Seat in the Body, thus opening the Valve. This design is rated at 50 psig Service pressure and has an orifice equivalent to a .060 DIA hole at 10 psi drop. Internal leakage is less than 10 cc/min and External is zero. The Valve will function normally at temperatures ranging from -40 degrees F to +120 degrees F and withstand vibrations equivalent to MIL-STD-810B Method 514, Procedure No. 1. The unit is compatible with all Jet Fuels, Standard and Synthetic Hydraulic Oils, Diesel Oil or Gasoline.

HOW IS IT USED? This unit was designed for a fuel injection system during speed boost and to facilitate manifold cooling on a family of reciprocating aircraft engines. It has application in any manifolded hydraulic or pneumatic system. A standard screw driver slot is provided for installation and removal. Due to the low mass of the Armature, the Valve response is very quick; less than 5 ms at nominal voltage. Hence, it has application in Pulse Duration Modulation (PDM) systems offering low cost proportional flow control, particularly in missile systems of limited total life cycles.
