WHAT IS IT? This is a two position, three way, normally closed hydraulic Solenoid Valve rated at 3000 psi. It uses metal-to-metal poppet and seat design with a maximum leakage of 4.0 cc/min.

The Solenoid Assembly contains four redundant coils. The Valve will function normally with any two coils in operation and under all conditions. Radio frequency noise suppression is provided by four sets of diodes.

This design is configured as a manifold or plug-in type. Pad or line mounting schemes are also available. The electrical connectors engage their mates as the valve is installed in the manifold.

Internal flow from pressure to cylinder or return is filtered by an integral 300 series CRES sintered woven wire mesh screen with .008 inch openings. Finer filtration is provided for externally.

The Coil Assembly and Diode Set are vacuum potted and isolated from the fluid. All wetted surfaces in the Valve are either stainless steel or nickel plated magnetic alloys. The design uses two mutually opposed seats and two trapped spherical balls, both made of 440 stainless steel. Static seals are compatible with MIL-H-83282 hydraulic oil.

The dry weight of the unit is 1.58 pounds.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Supply pressure at 3000 psi is introduced to the inlet port located at the end of the Valve Housing. In the de-energized mode, pressure is blocked and the cylinder port is connected to return. When energized, the return port is blocked and pressure is ported to the cylinder. The valve will flow 0.36 gpm (minimum) through either port with a nominal 150 psi differential across the valve under all conditions.

The four coil solenoid assembly is designed such that the Valve will operate properly when any two of the four coils are energized at 13 VDC maximum at 70 degrees F stabilized ambient and fluid temperature.

This de-rated voltage corresponds to the minimum operating voltage at 160 degrees F ambient and 275 degrees F fluid temperatures. The solenoid holding force will allow the Valve to move the de-energized position at no less than 2 VDC after the signal is removed from all four coils (drop-out voltage).

The Valve is driven by either or both of two electrical control systems. The quad-coil redundancy provides for operation should either system or its backup fail.

The maximum drop-out time for the solenoid valve is 12 milli-seconds with two, three or four coil simultaneous disengagement. Drop-out time is defined as the elapsed time from start of voltage decay until the cylinder pressure drops to 250 psi above return pressure.
